In accordance with the Decree of President of Republic of Belarus of 12 June 2006 №. 385 «On certain measures to improve the work of bodies registering acts of civil status» diplomatic missions, as well as consular institutions of Republic of Belarus, performing their consular functions, register births, marriage, the establishment of paternity, the change of surname, own name, patronymic, death, divorce on the decisions of courts, entered into force before September 1, 1999, change, correct, supplement civil status records, annul and restore civil status records on the basis of a court decision, store civil registration books, issue duplicative certificates of civil status registration.
Diplomatic missions and consular institutions of Republic of Belarus are guided by:
Constitution of Republic of Belarus;
Code on Marriage and Family of Republic of Belarus of July 9, 1999;
Law of Republic of Belarus of October 28, 2008 «On the Framework of Administrative Procedures»;
Decree of President of Republic of Belarus of April 26, 2010 № 200 «On administrative procedures carried out by state bodies and other organizations on applications of citizens»;
Decree of President of Republic of Belarus of June 12, 2006 № 385 «On some measures to improve the work of bodies registering acts of civil status»;
«Regulation on the procedure for the registration of civil status acts and the issuance of documents and (or) certificates by bodies registering acts of civil status», approved by Decision of the Council of Ministers of Republic of Belarus of December 14, 2005 № 1454;
other acts of legislation.
The list of documents submitted by citizens of Republic of Belarus for the purpose of registering the civil status act, as well as the time and cost of implementing such an action are set out in the List of Administrative Procedures (set by Decree of President of Republic of Belarus of April 26, 2010 № 200 On the Framework of Administrative Procedures»).
Documents issued by the competent authorities of foreign states are accepted in case their legalization, unless otherwise established by international treaties of Republic of Belarus, and translated into one of the state languages of Republic of Belarus in accordance with the procedure established by law.
